The attribute for this quote is assertiveness. Thomas is stating how important it is to have a goal set in mind to try to achieve it. When you set goals you are more determined to try and achieve that. It is very important for a ship to have a rudder, metaphorically speaking, just the way a man is to his goal. This relates to my life planning goal because from that, I can set one goal that i truly want to achieve
